According to a recent study out of IDG Enterprise, IT managers and CIOs are embracing the importance of mobility more and more. When polled, 68 percent of IT department heads felt that mobility is the key success. Moreover, of this 68 percent, 70 percent indicated that they plan to spend upwards of a fifth of their budgets on mobility.
Given that over half of those IT departments surveyed indicated the importance of mobility, those who are interested in incorporating mobility into their business plan should consider the best ways to accomplish this.
Below are 3 proven mobility practices:
1. Ensure Executives Know the Benefits.
There’s no denying that mobility can be the key to a successful business; however, if you’re trying to convince the bigwigs to finance a mobility program, you’ll want to provide them with all the specifics, especially the benefits they’ll reap from their investment. The best way to do this is by developing a business case that highlights these benefits. Make sure you use words that your executives will understand—i.e. tell CEOs the income potential and describe to HR the potential for saving time and automating processes with apps.
2. Can You Handle Mobile?
Before adding a bunch of new mobile apps into your business plan, remember that your bandwidth can only handle so much before you begin to see problems in term of performance. As your organization starts adding in more mobility options, IT will need to check bandwidth consumption, tweak traffic when needed and make changes to bandwidth when applicable.
3. Think About Your Users.
Even with all the demand in the world for your app, if it’s designed poorly or doesn’t work properly, people won’t use it; thus, your hard work, time and money will all be wasted. To ensure that the app you roll out will be used, take the time to talk to your target audience and ensure that they know how your app works and what they are looking for in a mobile application.
